What’s happened.

LNG Canada, the joint venture made up of Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation and KOGAS, has handed TR Canada E&C the engineering, procurement and construction management contract — the job of designing the work, buying the equipment and running construction — for five new compressor stations on Phase 2 of the Coastal GasLink pipeline in northern British Columbia. The contract is reported at more than €200 million. Compressor stations are the pumping stations that push natural gas along the line; adding five of them is how LNG Canada moves more Montney gas to the Kitimat export plant without building a new pipeline. The award was reported by Gas Processing News.

Phase 2 has been talked about for months — pipeline owner TC Energy’s support for the expansion was covered in late September in this market report — but until now there was no single office running the buying. That has changed. The firm writing the purchase orders for pipe, vessels, modules, compression packages, valves, instruments, electrical work, insulation, scaffolding, camp services and field labour on these five sites is TR Canada E&C, and it will be assembling its bidder lists before the packages go out.

What it means for your business.

If you build modules or pressure equipment, package compression, supply instruments and valves, or sell construction and field services into northern B.C., your sales target just became a single named company rather than a rumour about a project. Get your prequalification documents, safety record, Indigenous partnership details and northern B.C. project references into TR Canada E&C's hands now, while bidder lists are being built — once bid packages are issued, the list is closed. Alberta-based suppliers should be explicit about how they mobilise crews and materials to remote northern sites, because that is the question the contractor will ask first.

Next step: Send your prequalification package and northern B.C. project references to TR Canada E&C this month, before bid packages are issued.
