What’s happened.

Air Canada has pulled four seasonal summer routes out of its future schedules, according to a report on aviation data from Ailevon Pacific covered by Travelweek. The cut routes are Vancouver to Nashville, Vancouver to Raleigh in North Carolina, Toronto to Charleston in South Carolina, and Montreal to Seattle. The airline has also reportedly suspended its Boston flights from Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto from December 2026 onward. Air Canada points to record-high jet fuel costs and changing operating conditions.

This is not a blanket retreat from the United States. The same report notes Air Canada is adding new cross-border routes from Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton for summer 2027, and that United Airlines, its joint-venture partner, is adding service to several more Canadian cities. So the total number of seats from the US may hold up. What changes is the map: the specific American cities that can reach Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal without a connection are being reshuffled, and a traveller who needs a connecting flight books later, pays more and is harder to convert.

What it means for your business.

If you run a hotel, resort or attraction in Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal and you have been buying search, social or trade advertising aimed at Nashville, Raleigh, Charleston, Seattle or Boston travellers, those campaigns lose their easiest selling point for summer 2027. Check which US cities still have a non-stop flight to your nearest airport before you lock next year's budget, and shift the money either to the new routes Air Canada and United are adding or to domestic and overseas markets. Your 2027 US packages should also stop assuming a one-flight trip in the cities that lost service.

Next step: Before you set your 2027 budget, list the US cities you advertise in and confirm each still has a direct flight to your nearest airport.
