What’s happened.
Destination Canada, the federal body that markets Canada to the world, has joined Air Canada and the Lufthansa Group on a pilot program to bring more travellers from South India to Canada for spring and summer 2027. As reported by Open Jaw, the pilot pairs Destination Canada’s brand campaign with the two airlines’ customer data, international route networks, marketing teams and booking channels. Gloria Loree, Destination Canada’s chief marketing officer, described it as a test of a “more precise, scalable way to grow demand for Canada.” International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu formalized the partnership during a Team Canada trade mission to Mumbai.
The scale behind it matters. Destination Canada estimates tourism could contribute up to $30 billion toward the federal goal of an extra $300 billion in exports to countries other than the United States by 2035, part of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s push to lean less on the American market. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Canada in December. For operators, the practical point is that a large, funded marketing effort will be pointed at one specific overseas audience in a specific season, and the operators whose product, pricing and imagery already suit that audience will capture the bookings it creates.
What it means for your business.
If you run a resort, attraction or hotel group that can host multi-generational family groups, offer vegetarian menus, or package guided sightseeing rather than self-drive, this pilot is the cheapest route into a new overseas market you will see for 2027. Get your product details, rates and imagery in front of Destination Canada and your provincial tourism body before spring 2027 planning closes, and ask what co-operative advertising slots exist alongside the Air Canada and Lufthansa activity. Waiting until the campaign launches means paying full freight to reach the same travellers.
Next step: Contact your provincial tourism body this month to ask how to join Destination Canada's India activity for 2027.
