What’s happened.
Transat, the Montreal-based tour operator, is discounting selected vacation packages by up to 35%. The offer covers Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, Colombia and several European destinations. It applies to new individual bookings made between October 9 and 25, 2026, for travel from October 9, 2026 to June 30, 2027. On some destinations the deposit drops to $100 per person, which lowers the cash a family needs to commit today.
That combination lands in the middle of the winter booking window for Canadian operators. A household weighing a ski week in the Rockies, a Laurentians lodge stay or a coastal wellness retreat is being shown a flight, hotel and meals bundle at a discount, with almost no money down. The short deposit matters as much as the headline percentage: it removes the hesitation that usually keeps an undecided booker on the fence.
What it means for your business.
If you sell winter stays — ski, lodge, spa or resort — expect softer enquiry volume through late October and resist matching the discount. Your advantages are the ones a sun package cannot reproduce: a drive instead of a flight, no passport, no airport day, flexible dates and the ability to book late. Put those in your October and November messaging, and protect your rate by adding value people can see, such as lift tickets, meals or treatments, rather than cutting the nightly price.
Next step: Before the end of October, rewrite your winter offer to add value rather than cut rate, and lead with the no-flight, no-passport advantage.
