Parks Canada’s fire ban for Banff National Park, in effect since July 30 at noon and continuing until further notice, prohibits wood campfires, charcoal barbecues, tiki torches and outdoor wood stoves park-wide, with fines of up to $25,000. The Rocky Mountain Outlook reports that the park’s fire danger rating has now risen to extreme as hot, dry conditions persist into the back half of August.
What it means: Extreme fire danger does not close the park, but it changes what guests ask before they book — smoke, campfire experiences, trail access. Properties in the Bow Valley and Kananaskis that publish clear, current conditions pages and reassure travellers about what is open tend to hold their bookings through these windows; those that stay silent cede the conversation to social media and cancellation-friendly third-party channels.
