What’s happened.

Porter Airlines has suspended its flights between Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport and Fredericton from January 5 through April, and its Billy Bishop–Moncton flights from February through April, according to a report in Travelweek. Billy Bishop sits on the Toronto waterfront, minutes from the downtown office towers, so it carries a disproportionate share of business and short-break travellers who will not drive an hour to Pearson for a weekend trip.

The timing matters because Porter is not acting alone. The same report notes that Air Canada has pulled four summer seasonal routes from future schedules — Vancouver–Nashville, Vancouver–Raleigh, Toronto–Charleston and Montreal–Seattle — and has suspended its own Billy Bishop–Boston service from December 2026 onward. Two carriers trimming the same airport in the same season is a signal about where seats are going next year, not a one-off schedule tweak.

What it means for your business.

If you run a hotel, inn or experience business in New Brunswick that counts on Toronto visitors between January and April, the seats you were selling against are gone for this winter. Rebuild the quarter around drive-market guests from the Maritimes and Quebec, longer-stay packages that justify a Halifax or Pearson connection, and group or conference business that books flights in bulk. Do it now, while January rates and media buys are still being set.

Next step: Reallocate your January-to-April advertising money toward drive-market guests within six hours before winter rates are locked.
