Statistics Canada’s leading indicator of international arrivals counted 6.8 million international arrivals in July 2026, up 6.3% year over year. U.S. residents made 2.7 million trips — up 6.5%, the sixth consecutive month of growth — with automobile arrivals up 7.2% and air arrivals up 4.8%. Canadians’ return trips from the U.S. rose off last year’s depressed base but remain nearly 29% below 2024 levels by car, meaning more Canadian travel dollars are staying home too.
What it means: Both tailwinds — Americans coming north and Canadians vacationing domestically — are still blowing in Alberta’s favour. Shoulder-season campaigns aimed at U.S. fly markets and Canadian drive markets are working with demand, not against it.
