WestJet announced on August 18 that it has completed the cabin reconfiguration of all remaining all-economy aircraft formerly operated by Swoop and Sunwing. The standardized narrowbody fleet now offers Premium and expanded Extended Comfort cabins, fast free Wi-Fi, and modernized seating in a restored 174-seat configuration, with roughly 14 legacy Boeing 737-800s slated for refurbishment between September 2026 and the end of 2027.
For Alberta’s visitor economy, the Calgary-based carrier’s fleet standardization means a more consistent inflight product across the domestic and transborder routes that feed YYC and YEG — removing the budget-carrier variability that previously greeted a share of arriving visitors.
What it means: The quality of the arrival experience is part of the destination product. A stronger, more consistent WestJet cabin on routes into Calgary and Edmonton supports premium packaging, airline partnerships and the overall case Alberta destinations make to long-haul and U.S. travellers weighing a Rockies trip.
