Nisku’s CMS Infrastructure shows the U.S. defence-and-infrastructure playbook: 95% of revenue south of the border

Edmonton Global profiled Nisku-based CMS Infrastructure (CMSI), which manufactures fibre-reinforced polymer and hybrid steel-composite systems — spillway gates, berthing fenders, composite beams and modular and emergency bridges — and generates roughly 95 per cent of its revenue in the United States, with the U.S. military as its largest customer. The company won the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 2025 Innovation of the Year Award for a composite spillway gate and bulkhead project, has built a berthing fender system for the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor, and runs a secondary manufacturing operation in Summerville, South Carolina (Edmonton Global).

What it means: Specialized industrial products that solve a hard engineering problem for a government or infrastructure buyer can win in the U.S. regardless of the tariff headlines — and a U.S. footprint is increasingly part of the answer. For Alberta manufacturers with a defensible niche, CMSI is a template worth studying: award-backed credibility, a named anchor customer and a dual-country production base.
