Industry Minister Mélanie Joly and Calgary MP Corey Hogan were in Calgary on August 26 to announce a major renewed investment in the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) (ISED). CAAIN confirmed the news the same day, with ISED citing six years of agtech R&D results in committing a second round of funding (CAAIN).

CAAIN, headquartered in Alberta, co-funds automation, smart-farm and food-processing technology projects that pair technology companies with producers and processors — exactly the kind of non-dilutive capital that helps scale-ups fund pilots and de-risk commercialization.

What it means: If you build agtech, food-processing automation or smart-farm technology in Alberta, get positioned for the next CAAIN competition now — line up a producer or processor partner and a project scope, because renewed funding rounds tend to move from announcement to intake quickly.
